Buffalo chicken dip was inspired by the Buffalo chicken wing according to New York writer Calvin Trillin. Trillin, who is an expert on the origin of Buffalo chicken wing, found that the delectable dish was invented in 1964 by the Bellissimo family. Frank Bellisimo’s mother created the buffalo chicken wing by deep frying the wings and coating them in hot sauce. The wings were such a hit that all of Buffalo became aware of their immaculate taste within weeks. These wings thus inspired the fabrication of the dip.
Now, thousands of various recipes can be found across the internet that give ways to make this dip in just 30 minutes. On Instagram alone there are over 62k posts dedicated to this dish, each post with a different unique variation to the traditional recipe such as adding a pepper sauce or green onions.
When the 2025 Super Bowl rolls around in February, it is essential that a bowl of buffalo chicken dip is located somewhere near the T.V. Maybe next year buffalo chicken dip will be crowned the ultimate Super Bowl food as it rightfully deserves.
