The combination of cream cheese, shredded cheese, buffalo wing sauce, ranch dressing, and chicken creates the perfect warm dipping sauce. Buffalo chicken dip is a necessary appetizer for any function including tailgates and parties. Pair it with corn chips, veggies, pretzels, or anything that could use a little flavoring and it will add a perfectly creamy consistency and a subtle spice.

Typically, buffalo chicken dip is made for multiple servings. Luckily, a great thing about this dip is its ability to be refrigerated and reheated. The dip can be stored in the fridge for up to four days. In that time frame, one can heat up their dip in the microwave for just two minutes and have a hot, mouthwatering dish to eat with any food of their choice.

This flavorful dip has a surprising competitor: chili. In a study on the top Super Bowl foods in each state conducted by news and information outlet, “NC Sharp”,  the buffalo chicken dip came in second behind chili. It did however beat guacamole, pigs in a blanket, and spinach artichoke dip. But this is not good enough, because buffalo chicken dip deserves to come out on top.

According to “” social conversations regarding buffalo chicken dip have increased by over 70.91% over the last year. Even with its sudden rise in popularity, only 1.2% percent of restaurants offer it on their menus according to this study. Something needs to be done to make this dip more accessible, so that more people may become aware of its immaculate flavor.

Buffalo chicken dip was inspired by the Buffalo chicken wing according to New York writer Calvin Trillin. Trillin, who is an expert on the origin of Buffalo chicken wing, found that the delectable dish was invented in 1964 by the Bellissimo family. Frank Bellisimo’s mother created the buffalo chicken wing by deep frying the wings and coating them in hot sauce. The wings were such a hit that all of Buffalo became aware of their immaculate taste within weeks. These wings thus inspired the fabrication of the dip.

Now, thousands of various recipes can be found across the internet that give ways to make this dip in just 30 minutes. On Instagram alone there are over 62k posts dedicated to this dish, each post with a different unique variation to the traditional recipe such as adding a pepper sauce or green onions.

When the 2025 Super Bowl rolls around in February, it is essential that a bowl of buffalo chicken dip is located somewhere near the T.V. Maybe next year buffalo chicken dip will be crowned the ultimate Super Bowl food as it rightfully deserves.
