On Valentine’s weekend, Marvel fans flocked to movie theaters everywhere, looking forward to Marvel’s latest film, eagerly awaiting Anthony Mackie to play the role of Sam Wilson, the new Captain America.
“I was excited to see it, but I was also a little weary in terms of like, was it gonna be any good?” Mr. Jonathan Fabrey, School Counselor, said.
Following the somewhat upsetting finale of “End Game” in 2019, Marvel fans have been waiting for someone to take up the role of Captain America and in “The Falcon” and the “Winter Soldier,” Sam Wilson claimed that title in 2021.
With Steve Roger’s famous shield and his own rebranded falcon gear, he is taking Marvel superheroes in a new direction.
“I do like Anthony Mackey as Captain America” Mr. Fabrey said.
From the beginning of the film, to its end, “Brave New World” takes the audience on a thrilling journey packed with adventure, high stakes, and political intrigue.
Newly minted as Captain America, Sam Wilson has to solve a government conspiracy, save a friend from the death sentence, and stop war from breaking out, all while growing into his role.
“A lot of it was just like setting up for future movies. Not like a lot of huge, big action coming together, but I actually enjoyed it” Ava Brinkerhoff ‘25 said.
Alongside Anthony Mackie are Carl Lumbly (Isaiah Bradley), Danny Ramirez (Joaquin Torres), and Tim Blake Nelson (Samuel Stern), reprising their roles in the Marvel franchise.
But, Harrison Ford (Thaddeus Ross) and Shira Haas (Sabra) join the Marvel cast, hopefully to stay for future films, and Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes) returns for a cameo in the film’s climax.
“I loved the surprise appearance by Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, because he’s my overall favorite character,” Brinkerhoff said.
The film ends on a note of hesitation, leaving the audience pondering who is next for Captain America, heightened by Samuel Stern’s cryptic warning in the post credit scene. If the next Marvel film, “Thunderbolts”, is as action packed as this one, then Marvel fans are sure to swarm the theaters again.
