Scandal. Betrayal. Love (as in tennis). Luca Guagagnino’s newest film “Challengers” is a nail-biting film that encapsulates the intensity of the sport of tennis, as well as relationships.
Starring Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor, the film centers around the relationship between three tennis players: Tashi Duncan, Tashi’s husband Art Donaldson, and Art’s childhood best friend, Patrick Zweig, who also happens to be Tashi’s ex-boyfriend.
Art has never been able to beat Patrick, and Tashi faces a dilemma when he steps on the court to play against Art.
“It was really interesting to see the contrast between them as young people. And then when there’s a flashback to them older. I enjoyed that”, Maura F ‘24 said.
The cast works amazingly well with each other and makes each scene worth watching. Zendaya, as always, is a show stopper. Her talent shines through the screen as she takes on the role of Tashi. Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor deliver entrancing performances that draw viewers in.
“I loved it. It’s the type of movie that you
can just think about for days. And there’s like, so much to think about”, Carly Oniskey ‘24 said.
Since its theatrical release on April 22nd, “Challengers” has taken the film world by storm. Its cinematography, score, and cast has been praised on all forms of social media. It currently holds a 7.7/10 on IMDB and an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.
If you are looking for an exciting, entertaining, fresh film, then Challengers may be for you.
