On October 25 and 26, 2024, La Salle College High School held their One Acts Festival, a production consisting of six student-written one act plays. The shows ran the spectrum of political comedy to surrealist drama to time-traveling adventures. Four Mounties lent their talents to the show: Molly Dunphy-Culp ‘25, Sofia Glantz ‘25, Sofia Romano ‘25, and Samantha Springer ‘25.
The One Acts Festival is a beloved tradition in the La Salle theater department. “Fall One Acts has been one of the greatest experiences of my time at La Salle. I have done it for four years and haven’t regretted a minute,” said William Gambel LSCHS ‘25.
On opening night, the actors, who were called at 5:30, were met with tragedy — the dressing room doors were locked. Luckily, La Salle Theater Department Costumer Ms. Kelly saved the day.
One of the highlights of the show was Brendan Destefano LSCHS ‘26’s performance of Colleen Williams in Filial Insanity, a feisty grandmother meeting her grandson’s fiancée for the first time.
“Iconic. Once in a lifetime. Very extraordinary. I’d to do it again but I have to graduate,” said Andrew Luckey LSCHS ‘25, who starred as Patrick in Filial Insanity and Raft Guy in A Great Chat-astrophe.
“When I joined One Acts freshman year I had literally no friends, and I was recommended to do this. In a day I wrote a play,” said Brendan Destefano LSCHS ‘26.
“An experience I’ll never forget. It provided me growth and new-found friendships,” said Sam Springer ‘25, who acted in three out of the six plays.
The One Acts festival has been noted by all participants for the friendships it fosters among the cast and crew, and the new allegiance these bonds have formed between the Mount and La Salle theater communities.
“What makes One Acts amazing is not just how it fosters community, but how it really immortalizes the importance of brotherhood to La Salle. You learn to support your cast mates and crew to put on a performance, and you grow stronger in your relationships,” said Brendan Destefano LSCHS ‘26.
“A very fun experience that showed us the creative fun side of La Salle,” said Sofia Romano ‘25, who mastered a quick costume change from Mr. to Mrs. Spiderman in D.U.N.G.

I just finished reading your article about one-act plays, and I wanted to take a moment to thank you for such an insightful piece. You captured the essence of the genre so well, and your analysis of the structure, themes, and the unique challenges of one-act plays was both thoughtful and engaging.
It’s clear that a lot of care and research went into your writing, and I really appreciated the way you brought attention to both the artistic and practical aspects of producing one-act performances. Your article not only deepened my understanding but also reignited my appreciation for these powerful, compact pieces of theater.
Thank you again for sharing your perspective and expertise with us!
