A few weeks ago we experienced our first Founders’ Day at the Mount! Founders’ Day is a day dedicated to honoring the Sisters of Saint Joseph, who founded the Mount in 1858. We had a beautiful day where we were able to grow spiritually and bond with our sisters.
Things we learned/ weren’t expecting
During Founders’ Day, Mounties not only got to have fun with friends, but as freshmen, we got to learn about Mount and its origins. Many were inspired to hear the story of the six sisters who dedicated their lives to helping others and establishing such an amazing school that teaches young women to be founders and thrive.
On Founders’ Day, we also got to watch the SLC video. The video was a great way for everyone to learn more about the women who founded the Mount and to also hear from the sisters who live here!
What we loved
One of the many Founders’ Day traditions is to have a sleepover with your friends the night before. Usually, parents don’t agree to school night sleepovers. However, most made exceptions and Mount students stayed up too late at each others’ houses binging movies and eating cookies… a lot of cookies.
One of the best things about Founders’ Day is the car rides to school where everyone is lacking sleep and is full of all the junk they ate.
Not only did we enjoy the pre-Founders’ Day activities, but we also enjoyed the ones during the actual day. Braiding ribbon into hair, walking to the motherhouse, and the all-girls dance party were among favorites for Mounties, especially freshmen.
What we recommend
While we had a blast at our first Founders’ Day, there are a few things we plan on doing differently next year.
While everyone had fun, many Mounties focused a little too much on the photos.
Ribbons were braided into everyone’s hair, which posed great opportunities for photos, however the photos became some Mounties’ only concern.
The countless photos made it difficult to live in the moment and appreciate their first Founders’ Day. We recommend focusing less on the photos and more on the memories. Yes, photos are fun!
From the Freshmen
“I loved the dance party because everyone was dancing together and it was nice to be with the juniors, because we never really get the opportunity to.” Abby Hayburn ‘28 explains.
“Founders’ Day was a great way to connect with my peers, and it was a very special day!” Ava Kristal ‘28 said.
“Founders’ Day was Fire! The dance party was lit!” Alana Fabrey ‘28 shares.
“I liked the walk, I enjoyed having random conversations,” Nora Burton-Sampson ‘28 said.

Amazing job Kylie and Everly! This was such a cute story and I wish I had something like this my freshmen year. I love how you structured the story and can’t wait to see what else you write for the Campanile!
