With the results of the 2024 presidential election in, America is still as divided as it was at the beginning of the race. With Pro-Trump supporters over the moon and Pro-Harris supporters left devastated, America has spoken, whether Americans themselves like it or not.
Mounties in support of President Donald Trump left satisfied
“I feel very satisfied. My beliefs are very conservative overall, so I like Trump a lot. He has love for America,” Kelsea Pinkerton ‘26 said.
President Donald Trump has won not just the electoral college, winning every key swing state and gaining new voter demographics, but also the popular vote, making him the first Republican to do so since 2004.
When asked about why they were looking forward to a new administration, Mountie Trump supporters shared their optimism for Trump’s second term administration in contrast with President Joe Biden’s.
“The fact that he was already president and was successful. And then Biden came in and it was just awful. I feel like things will improve with the economy, like with inflation,” Bridget Horgan ‘26 said.
With Republicans winning the Senate and the House, Americans can expect a primarily red government the next four years.
The 2024 presidential election was historical for a number of reasons, but perhaps one of the most prominent is the fact that Donald Trump has become the first convicted felon to become president of the United States, as well as the only government official to be impeached twice. However, his supporters claim to focus more on his policies rather than his character.
“I would say I guess I brush it off. I look more at what he’s going to do for America than who he is a person,” Kelsea Pinkerton said.
“Regardless of his policy, I feel like when you’re having a leader of the United States of America because we’re such an important country you need to have a strong figurehead, like intimidating. And I feel like a lot of people think he can be mean, but I think that’s a good thing in some ways. We’re not going to be messed with and other countries are going to stay in line,” Izzy Mellos ‘25 said.
Some in favor of Donald Trump decide to avoid considering his controversial personality and speeches, while in contrast many use it as a key point of why they withhold support.
Mounties in support of VP Kamala Harris left devastated
While some Mounties were left satisfied with the results of the election, others were disappointed and frustrated as they watched votes roll in on that historic Tuesday night.
“I would rather have a dead raccoon than Donald Trump. He is going to put his values before America’s,” Layla Seward ‘26 said.
Voicing their dissatisfaction with not just his policies but his character, Mountie Harris supporters shared their concerns for a second Trump term.
“I think that at Mount we preach a lot about love, respect, and unity, and he has said a lot of things that don’t really align with that. Sometimes it feels like people will do anything to not have a female president,” Julia Burdick ‘26 said.
“I feel like his policies are going to be counterproductive. I think it’s disgusting what he says about women in a sexual aspect,” Gabby McCall ‘26 said.
As democrats scramble to point fingers on why their party lost the race, one argument that has emerged has been the failure of the Biden administration in terms of the economy. But Gabby McCall attributes what many Americans deem a failure of “Bidenomics” to Trump’s first term.
“I feel like the failures of the Biden administration were a result of their predecessor, Donald Trump. A lot of people like to talk about the economy, but what a lot of them don’t know is that when Biden took over, Trump had tripled the economic deficit. How are you supposed to bounce back from that on top of a global pandemic?” Gabby McCall said.
As Mounties lean left and right, many feel fed up
Like so many Americans caught in the middle of what can feel like a political dogfight, many Mounties are tired of the election and American politics all together.
“I think our political system needs to be revised and revamped because the two party system is tearing America apart,” Gracie Meehan ‘26 said.
Some are left exasperated and drained from the results, while others are just fatigued from the media and networks reminding them everyday.
“No matter what the results are, I’m just happy it’s over,” Olivia Roman ‘26 said.
