A majority of Mounties are excited to live out and embrace their childhood fantasy of senior prom, except some are not thrilled with the theme.
“I am feeling super hype because, you know, like masquerade ball and “Gossip Girl,” that was like huge tea, so I’m really excited for what could go down. It’s also going to be another “Cinderella Story”, it’s just a good reference to so many shows that have really shaped me into who I am today,” Katie Lamb ‘25 said.
Like Katie Lamb, Veronica Vacca and many other students are looking forward to experiencing this “Gossip Girl” night.
“I am really excited, it’s giving “Gossip Girl”…Ready to live my Blair moment,” Veronica Vacca ‘25 said.
On the other hand, some seniors are disappointed with the Masquerade Ball theme, and envy the Junior Prom theme, Mama Mia, because it is more summery.
“Honestly, I wasn’t a huge fan of it. I just like there’s so many more fun themes out there. Something like under the sea or anything more summery and fun,” Zoey Truitt ‘25 said.
Senior Izzy Mellos describes her thoughts on the two Prom themes and compares both flyers,
“Let’s look, right now we’re at the door at Fontbonne; on our left we have “Save the date” for Junior Prom, beautiful “Mama Mia” theme, it’s some blue, and pretty flowers. To our right we have a Darth Vader, like Dracula, and emo poster. I really don’t like it,” Mellos ‘25 said.
Other girls are nervous about the dark color scheme affecting the dress they have already selected.
“I am a little worried, my dress is light blue, so I feel like that’s not exactly going with the vibe,” Lila Forti ‘25 said.
“My dress is sage green which doesn’t go with the theme because I wasn’t prepared,” Vacca ‘25 said.
Those who do not have a dress picked out already are excited to tie the theme into their dress.
“I’m still on the dress hunt… but yes, I will wrap the theme into the dress somehow. I want to do darker colors because I feel like masquerade is very mysterious. I want to do black because you know, blonde is the outfit,” Caroline Bladek ‘25 said.
Typically when talking about a masquerade theme, masks are involved, however; senior Mounties as a whole are split about whether or not they will be wearing one. When The Campanile polled 47 seniors, 74.5% said they will not wear one, while 68.1% claim they still like the theme.
“I really like the masquerade theme because I think it is really classy, but I’m not going to be wearing a mask.” Eva Getty ‘25 said.
Some girls are concerned about the mask affecting their makeup.
“I also will not be wearing a mask because I don’t want to ruin my makeup and hide my face,” Katie Westmoreland ‘25 said.
Others, like Molly Dunphy-Culp are torn.
“I think if everyone else wore one I would. I think that it would be fun if it was a group thing, but I fear it won’t be,” Dunphy-Culp ‘25 said.
To avoid the problem of no one wearing a mask, seniors Abby Williams and Fiona Donnelly have come up with a plan of action.
“We were thinking that people actually wear masks, that the masks should be given out beforehand and they should be the tickets, so to get into prom you have to have your masks with you,” Williams ‘25 and Donnelly ‘25 said.
Molly Cherico has an idea that making masks for prom can become a fun activity with friends.
“I think people could have mask decorating parties with their friends and it could be a really cute,” Cherico ‘25 said.
