Mounties are helping the Sisters of Saint Joseph in many positive ways. Brooke Witherite, the Villa Team’s coordinator within the building where the sisters live, explains that the weekly Tuesday visit brings life to the fourth floor residents.

Saint Joseph’s Villa, founded in 1650, has been helping ensure that the sisters who have spent their lives serving the dear neighbor are now cared for with the same love and devotion they gave to others. This embodies the Mount and Sisters of Saint Joseph’s mission.
Those in charge of The Villa have worked to adapt to the changing aspects of society while also living out their vocation and calling.
Every Tuesday, a group of Mount students walk over to the Villa which is directly behind the Mount. From 3:15-4:15, they do an influential activity with a group of sisters. Whether it is a craft, baking, or singing, they keep residents active and smiling.
The Mount shares the compassion and love of the Sisters of Saint Joseph with the Villa.
“My favorite memory was talking to the sisters about the importance of sisterhood and education as a woman in society,” said Manicini.

Witherite teaches the Mount girls about the importance of spending time with the sisters.“Life enrichment is vital for people who are aging,” said Witherite. Her lessons further Mountie’s knowledge when it comes to the sisters’ afternoon routine.
“The three o’clock time frame is really important because there’s something called sundowning that the sisters experience… who have memory impairment…it can be a difficult transition… the students from the Mount help to ease that transition” said Witherite.

The Mounties also gain experience and bliss because of the fulfillment they feel after spending time with those residing in the Villa. There is a newfound love for patience and helping the dependent elderly.
“It is a very wholesome experience. I think it is really fun to walk over with all of your sisters to the Villa and spend time with all of the sisters and make crafts with them” said Nora Feliciani ‘26.
