The Mount strives to prepare students for all of life’s experiences especially in college as it is an all girls private-catholic college preparatory school. Alumnae like Megan Maransky ‘21 advise younger students to take in the lessons that are taught at the Mount both in the classroom and socially.
“I was surprised to see, that even in a place as brilliant as Duke, that female students still get self-conscious participating in classroom discussions or debates. At the Mount, I never felt judged or scared to share my opinion or speak up and it is this confidence that I feel that is the biggest impact the Mount has made on me” Maransky said.
During her time at Mount, Maransky stood out amongst her class.
“Megan had an amazing work ethic. Even though she was carrying a heavy academic load…” said alumnae and retired Latin teacher Mrs. Mimi Bender ’72.

Being a student athlete can be difficult, but those around Maransky always say that she radiates positive energy.
“She was so humble.. sweet girl who worked hard, did her thing, involved with more than just sports… and friends with everyone” Mrs. Francie McGovern, Mount’s school nurse, said.

Collegiate athletics is a rigorous workload when trying to juggle school work, practices, and a social life. Students as involved as Maransky, work twice as hard and Megan advises Mounties with the words of wisdom from our school motto: “Something I held onto in balancing these past four years is a phrase I took from the Mount – be where your feet are…I learned that giving 100% effort in whatever space my feet are in at the present has always worked better than multitasking” Maransky said.

Maransky was recently awarded the Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford and Jim & Pat Thacker postgraduate scholarships for student-athletes who intend to pursue a graduate degree. In addition to maintaining a 3.0 GPA, the nominees display that they work hard both on the field and in the classroom aligning with university standards.

“I was so honored to be Duke Athletics’ female nominee this year and was even more shocked to be awarded the scholarship. The entire Duke Athletics team is more like a family” Maransky said.
Working towards a career in medicine, Maransky’s graduate degree will be funded by this scholarship.
