“Women as Founders” is an elective offered to juniors at the Mount, beginning in the spring of junior year and continuing throughout the fall of senior year until presentations conclude. In this course, students explore a topic they are passionate about through immersive research. They then develop a research paper, deliver a schoolwide presentation, and design a project that brings their topic to life while creating a meaningful impact.
Throughout the course, with the support of Ms. Barron and Ms. Manley, students learn more about the schools SSJ connections and examine social issues. However, Ms. Hamilton serves as the lead teacher, guiding students through the stages of research, rehearsals, and presentations. Ms. Hamilton’s passion and enthusiasm for “Women as Founders” inspires students to approach challenges with confidence and empowerment to take action to create a positive impact and change in the world.
“I strongly believe in the Mount mission that the future of society depends on the education of women,” said Ms. Hamilton. “The course combines all of my favorite education models: student-centered research, hands-on learning, and sharing new knowledge with peers.”
This year, eight seniors are in the final stages of polishing, preparing, and finalizing their presentations which they are showcasing on October 17 and 21. Students such as Chloe and Gabi were unsure if they wanted to take the course at first, but are glad they did.
“I think it’s a great group of girls who are very excited to work towards change in the community.” said Chloe Trainer ‘26
“Women as Founders is an opportunity that every young woman at the Mount should take advantage of.” said Gabriella Balaratna ‘26 “By linking personal research on a topic of interest to a service or advocacy project, Mount students can contribute meaningfully to their community, making learning personal and socially relevant.”
