Wake up. Go to school. Do homework. Row. Sleep. Repeat.
This is an example of Katie Duffy’s everyday life. As a hardworking student athlete, Katie Duffy perfectly balances her personal life with her athletic pursuits and schoolwork.
Everyday, Katie wakes up, goes to school, and does homework, just like any other student at the Mount..
At school, Katie challenges herself and takes rigorous classes, such as Honors Government, Policy, & Economics, and Honors Spanish III.
She makes sure to stay on top of her schoolwork, even though she has an extremely busy schedule.
“Katie’s work ethic in Spanish class was very admirable! She showed persistence when working on new things…and did it all while balancing her academic responsibilities with a very intense crew schedule,” said Honors Spanish III teacher Senora Bornancini.
Katie’s efficiency is what makes her special–she never stops working hard, and is also an asset to Mount’s Crew Team. Katie is constantly at the boathouse practicing to get better at her sport.
“The hardest part of rowing is mentally pushing through the pain even when your legs are burning. The question is, how can you push yourself harder,” Katie said.
At practice, Katie and her team will typically begin by running or lifting, and will then start a workout on the water for about 2 hours. She finishes up practice by completing a 10 minute core workout.
“After school, me and my carpool [for crew] leave, and we go to practice until about 7:30 PM,” Katie said.
Through Mount Crew, Katie has also found best friends who she can count on for life.
“Rowing can be overwhelming at times and very stressful, but I really like the community that comes along with it. I really like the girls on my team, and we have a lot of fun,” Katie said.
People on her team also speak highly of her, emphasizing her kindness and friendly personality to everyone surrounding her.
“Yeah, I mean, she’s a great friend. She’s bubbly, and always takes care of me, even when I don’t feel well,” Addison Marques ‘27 said.

In her free time, Katie likes to hang out with her friends and family. She also frequently visits her sister in college, who attends Drexel University, located in Philadelphia.
“I just like to spend time with people, especially people who bring me joy, ” Katie said.
Katie plans to continue rowing and making new friends at Drexel University in the fall of 2027.
