Homework, practice, school, club meetings and work — this schedule is all too familiar for Mount students trying to keep up with heavy workloads.
Mount students often manage busy schedules while balancing stress. The school environment presents academic and extracurricular challenges, and students express how they deal with the stress that comes along with their everyday activities.
Many Mount students find physical activity to be a good stress reliever and a way to cope.
“I like to go for a walk or take a bath,” Kate Marsden ‘27 said.
“I like to go on walks on the beach or when I’m not down the shore I like to listen to music,” Reagan Clouser ‘27 said.
“If you’ve been sitting for a long time, you can go and go on a walk outside, go on a run, just kind of move your body so you can move the anxious energy around,” Mount school counselor Maura Brisco said.
“I like to go to the gym and run to take my mind off of things,” Fiona Corr ‘27 said.
Other Mounties find fidgets as a calming activity.
“I like to play with my NeeDohs when I am stressed. It helps me distract myself and not thing about what is stressing me out,” Addison Marques ‘27 said.
Harvard Health offcial Leo Newhouse says that crying is an important and safe way to cope with your feelings when feeling overwhelmed or stressed.
“When I am stressed I like to feel all my emotions and cry, it helps me release the stress,” Maddie Dudley ‘26 said.
“I like to talk to my best friends, my mom, or my sister about it, they have gone through a lot of the same experiences as me and they will always be honest with me and give me their opinion and good advice,” Erin Romano ‘27 said.
Some people feel the best way to escape the stress is to take a step back, breathe, and take a break.
“I just go home and like to be alone,” Marianna Rambo ‘26 said.
“I usually sleep a lot when I’m stressed out, because I can’t overthink whatever is going on, ” Brooke Donohue ‘27 said.
Staying organized and not putting too much on your plate is important to avoid the stress.

“I make to-do lists to make sure I stay organized and make sure I don’t procrastinate,” Michaela Ianieri ‘26 said.
Mount students love to encourage each other and give each other motivation.
“Don’t stress, just be confident in yourself and your abilities,” Ryan Salvitii ‘27 said.
“I think those are all great ways of managing stress,” Brisco said.
With a busy schedule life can get very overwhelming, but with all of these techniques Mounties are able to keep up with all of their school work and extracurriculars. There is no one right way to manage the stress that comes along with life, but these tips are a great place to start.
