In the midst of the Mount’s competitive academics and athletics, one rivalry stands above the rest: frozen yogurt.
The frozen yogurt craze has taken over the lives of Mounties. Post practice snack? Froyo. Bored on a Friday night? Froyo.
So where does the rivalry come in? Doesn’t everyone just love frozen yogurt? Well yes, but this rivalry isn’t about what, it’s about where. The two frozen yogurt spots in our area – Kiwi Frozen Yogurt and Chill on The Hill Frozen Yogurt– divide Mounties more than anything.
To get to the bottom of it, we interviewed Mounties across all grades about their favorite of the two.
Since these inquiries didn’t settle the debate, we took matters into our own hands. The only way to end it? Visit both shops ourselves—in one day.
Our first stop was Chill on the Hill Frozen Yogurt, followed by Kiwi Frozen Yogurt.
Although neither shop was especially crowded, both still had a social atmosphere filled with groups of friends stopping in after the school day. However, the two stores had completely different vibes. Chill felt calmer and more quaint, while Kiwi had a brighter, faster-paced atmosphere.
At Chill, we tried cookies and cream, pomegranate raspberry sorbet, and cookie dough flavors while taking in the shop’s more relaxed atmosphere. The cushioned benches and chairs made it feel like the kind of place where you could stay and talk for a while after practice or school. Being only a few minutes away from the Mount also makes it an easy post-practice stop for many students.
Abby Porter ‘27 said, “Chill is my favorite because it feels more cozy. After practice, it’s nice to just sit there with my friends and talk.”

Kiwi, on the other hand, felt much more modern and energetic. The bright pink walls and colorful atmosphere immediately stood out, along with the large selection of flavors and toppings. We tried lemon cake, raspberry, and cookie butter flavors, but the scoopable toppings especially caught our attention. Options like Dubai chocolate crunch, milk chocolate crunch, and different cookie doughs made the topping bar feel almost overwhelming in the best way possible.
While Chill seemed perfect for a quieter post-practice stop, Kiwi felt more like a classic Friday night outing with friends. After visiting both, we realized the rivalry may not actually come down to which frozen yogurt is “better,” but simply what kind of mood you are in.
We tried lemon cake, raspberry, and cookie butter flavors, but the toppings were what made Kiwi feel unique. Sara Masella ’28, an employee at Kiwi, said, “Kiwi is always so fun. I love working here because I never get bored.”

Even though both shops serve frozen yogurt, the experiences felt completely different. Chill on the Hill seemed better suited for quieter afternoons and post-practice conversations, while Kiwi felt more like the go-to spot for Friday nights and larger friend groups.
After visiting both stores, we realized the rivalry may never actually have a winner. Instead, it depends on what kind of mood someone is in. Some Mounties will always prefer Chill’s cozy atmosphere, while others stay loyal to Kiwi’s colorful energy and endless topping choices. Either way, one thing is clear: frozen yogurt has officially become part of Mount culture.
